Mentions major events through the series finale and both films, including Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte storylines.
The Sex and the City cast, sorted
Sex and the City runs on a question it never settles: what does a person owe herself, and what does she owe the person she loves? Four friends answer it four ways, and the show lets every answer cost something. That is why fans still argue over who got it right. Carrie wants to be chosen. Miranda wants to be correct and left alone. Charlotte wants the life she has pictured since girlhood. Samantha wants to answer to nobody.
The sharpest fault line is independence. Miranda pays for her own life and resents being managed. Charlotte treats marriage as the main project, and spends years learning it is not the whole life. Samantha builds a business and treats her own pleasure as a reasonable line in the budget. Carrie writes a weekly column and lives like someone with a much larger paycheck, which the show eventually makes her pay for.
The men are not an afterthought. Big is charm without commitment, and the show is honest that charm is not the same as character. Aidan is the argument for a patient, handmade life, and nobody ever settles whether Carrie was foolish to leave it. Steve is the underrated one, a plain-spoken man who stays kind after being treated carelessly. Stanford sees all four women clearly and gets the fewest storylines of his own.
Friendship is the show's real romance, and it is not frictionless. The four argue about money, about judgment and about whose crisis gets the table. They keep coming back anyway, usually over a meal, usually after someone has said the unforgivable thing. A good result here is not a flattering one. It is the character whose weaknesses you would also recognize in yourself, and whose strengths you would be glad to borrow on a bad week.
The two films press on the same bruise. The first asks whether a woman can be left at the altar and still be a decent person afterward. The second takes the four to Abu Dhabi, and fans are still divided on whether it belongs to the same story at all. Most viewers will argue about the plot. Almost no one argues about who is who.
This quiz works from choices, not wardrobe. You will be asked what you would do when a friend asks for money, when a partner wants a bigger commitment than you do, when a job pulls you somewhere new. Each answer points toward the character who would most likely make the same call, and the highest total wins.
